Big news was announced yesterday from BioWare! In Spring 2013, Star Wars: The Old Republic will see its first digital expansion, which is being called Rise of the Hutt Cartel. This expansion will include the new planet Makeb and 5 additional levels of fully-voiced story to play through.

Rise of the Hutt Cartel is now available for pre-order, and current subscribers will get a discounted price on the expansion. All pre-orderers will receive 5 days of early access time, and Free-to-Play players who pre-order will automatically be upgraded to Preferred Player status. For more information, please see the official announcement page.

Later in the day, there were some important forum updates having to do with the announcement. Keep reading to find out more.

One forum announcement was in regards to continued class stories in the expansion:

Hi everyone – I asked Jeff Hickman for some clarification for you on whether Makeb will feature an extension of class stories. Here’s the info:

“The intent for Rise of the Hutt Cartel is to continue your character’s story, but envisioned as part of the ongoing struggle of the Empire vs. the Republic. There are lots of great moments for you to enjoy, and it will be shared as two clear storylines. No class specific storylines are included, though I know you guys are going to love what RotHC has to offer.”

The second was regarding the purchase of the expansion using Cartel Coins, which will unfortunately not be an option:

We’d like to clarify that Rise of the Hutt Cartel will be available for purchase through SWTOR.com/buy only, and there won’t be an option to purchase it using Cartel Coins.
