During last Friday’s official RIFT live stream event, the Trion team showed off some pretty awesome Dendrome goodies. We found out a bit more about the Architects, which is the insectoid race that has helped Crucia build a few of her undertakings. Laethys was the last true master of the Architects. They’re from the Plane of Earth but aren’t greedy for gold and treasures. They do consume the life force and energy from living things, however, which is a process that leaves behind piles of sand as a byproduct of sorts, which is why the Dendrome is half sand and half lush forest. It’s also why Ashora is full desert.
The goal of the Architects? To have another Queen, it would seem. A fair bit of concept art like this image was previewed during the stream. Elrar also showed us the interior of the Infinity Gate, which is pretty huge. We also saw a sneak peek of the new Hellbug rifts (and mounts/pets!) coming to RIFT starting on Wednesday, May 1st.
All fire rifts in both old world and Storm Legion content will have a chance to be the special, new Hellbug rift which is called Invasive Species. The rifts have three standard stages and two unstable stages. There are various types of Hellbugs from Skitterlings and Warriors to Toxic Hellbugs.
All of the Hellbug rifts have a chance of rewarding players with the Hellbug pets and mounts. There are three different pets (Skritt, Blurple, Phero) and three different mounts with varying rarities. The Toxic Hellbug mount is the rarest, has about the same odds to drop as Murdantix, and has a greenish tint that’s kind of cool. He’s previewed in the title image for this article. Both unstable stages have a chance to drop the mounts/pets. The good news is that according to a forum post of Elrar’s, the Hellbug rifts will stay in the game as a part of the normal fire rift rotation for the foreseeable future.
Now, more on Dendrome itself. Early last month, PTS testers were able to preview some of the in-progress areas of Dendrome. Quite a bit has changed since then obviously. Here is the current in-progress map Elrar let us preview during the live stream.
There will be artifacts and a puzzle in Dendrome. There are two Architect hives, one fairly small and one quite huge:
There’s a new notoriety faction (Hylal?) that will allow players to earn reputation by taking part in zone events that appear in the way of jumping puzzle-type things (there will also be other ways, presumably). These jumping objects seem to be related to the Plane of Life somehow. We’re not sure how grind-centric this faction will be, but with any luck it will be more interesting than what we saw with the early Storm Legion factions. The reputation Elrar seemed to be getting wasn’t too bad, but it will ultimately depend on what other ways players have to earn notoriety.
Inside the largest hive is where things start to get pretty interesting. There will be a new Chronicle from the looks of it. Also deep inside the largest hive is an open-world, underground dungeon that culminates into an open-world raid. There are currently three world bosses (Ahkane the Eternal, Senbora the Devourer, and Kaaz’Ra) available for player testing on the Public Test Shard that will be a part of RIFT 2.3.
The interior of the open-world dungeon area isn’t quite complete (nor polished) as far as art goes, but we did get a preview. Here are a couple of screenshots:
Overall, the place looks fairly awesome. It’ll be interesting to see how players take to this type of open-world content. If successful, 2.3 could be a very awesome patch for RIFT.
