heavy armor

There’s not a lot going on in the ESO news world this week, but we have a few snippets here and there. As you can see from our banner, Zenimax has released another concept image of some heavy armor. I’m pleased to see the armor on three different races, and I think it’s telling that each of the heavy armor wearing models has a different type of weapon loudout: some sort of wicked looking 2-handed axe or bladed mace for the Redguard, dual wielding swords for the Wood Elf, and sword and board for the Dark Elf. It speaks to the underlying design of the skill system that any character, wielding any weapon, can wear heavy armor if he or she so chooses.

As far as I understand it, every visual display for armor we have is hand edited to each race/gender combination. There are silly looking things and there are rad looking things. There is a wide spectrum of choices, as many for male as female. I do not know what the art plans for costumes are.

In the on going thread on WTC regarding female character gear modeling, we learn from Gortok this morning that all armor is tailored to specific race/gender combinations. This is only interesting to contrast against other games that use a unity-body design where gear scales to the character model. What this means is that instead of designing armor for just female or male, the developers have to craft gear for every option. This could mean that designing and creating new content might take longer. Another aspect of this means that a lot of art assets could be reused with different colors.

class speculation title copy

From what we already know, Wildstar is obviously deeply entrenched in the trinity system of class interaction. This is a fancy was of saying there will be tanks, healers and DPS. With this knowledge fully in our grasp, we’re going to start speculating on what the classes already revealed and what the last two classes are going to be.

Currently there are four classes already revealed, the Warrior, the Spellslinger, the Stalker and the Esper. You can hop on to the official website and read about each of the class. Carbine gives us standard class descriptions and if you click on each of the short descriptions you’ll find a bit more detail and lore for each class.

If you’ve been playing and watching MMORPGs for as long as we have, you can almost always gleam some information for what is not told to you. We’re going to base some of our speculation based on what makes the most sense from a development and game-balancing point of view. The developers of Wildstar aren’t rookies so we expect them to have learned a lot of lessons from other games over the last decade. Keep reading to find out what we came up with when it comes to speculating on what the last two classes will be.

This FAQ explains what you need to know about gear and how its attributes are distributed. I'll predominantly aim this at level 80 equipment as we can talk about all equipment rarities. The reason for this FAQ is:

  • To explain how attributes are distributed at level 80
  • To answer some common misconceptions
  • Illustrate the methods and difficulty of obtaining equipment

If not stated, the tables in this FAQ are from the GW2 wiki or self made.

Disclaimer: This faq is based on fact or logic based on evidence. Nothing is assumed because we all know what 'assume' does to you and me. As such, there may be other ways of obtaining gear or additional information not known to us at this time. However, I do not wish to speculate as this only causes confusion. If any pertinent information is sent to me that will improve this faq then I will update it.

Reddit user donoftheslum has put together an amazing compilation of armor and weapon models for each race of all the PVP armor sets that you can find in the lockers. So if you’re trying to finally decide on a race, then this collection is for you.

Due to the request of original poster, we have kept the links to the original galleries intact. Thanks don!

Information

There are four different model types:

  • Asura Male and Female
  • Charr Male and Female
  • Human, Sylvari, Norn Male
  • Human, Sylvari, Norn Female

I chose Charr Male, Asura Female, Human Male (Norn starting area wasn't working) and Human Female. This should cover all the available armor types.

Want to see what Norn Male armor looks like? View Human Male. They are the same. Sylvari Female? Human Female is the same. Hence the * in the title.

Keep reading for all the gallery links!

A Korean gaming site by the name of Inven had a chance to sit down yesterday with Bluehole Studios, and ask them some questions about the future of TERA, and upcoming Queen of Argons Part 2 patch.   Over on the TERA Europe forums, a player named Cori provided a translation of this interview.  From this interview we can see that there are many positive changes coming to Tera.  We will now examine the 3rd and last portion of the interview.  Some info on Battlegrounds, new Nexus Events, and some new Armor sets!
