FFXIV Title 8

In a bizarre case of ‘ask and you shall receive’, a ton of new screenshots have been released today. Including the regions in the periphery of both Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa.

It’s been a very long time since I can honestly say that I’ve been super excited to explore a zone depicted in a screen shot; with the exception of a few of these screens (those taken in the Gridania region), every single region depicted beckon to me with the promise of exploration and adventure. These next few weeks of waiting for beta 3 are getting more and more difficult by the day and you can see below, exactly why that is!

Ever notice that during the first couple days of a new MMO’s launch, one of the most repeated lines on the forums and in chat channels tends to be something along the lines of, “What do you expect? The game just launched.” The line’s usually said in reference to random bugs, lag issues, and login issues. The latter two, especially. “The lag will clear once people get bored of the game and even out as far as levels go,” fans argue. Wait a minute. You mean to tell me game developers launch a game without immediate post-launch conditions in mind? That… doesn’t make sense. First impressions matter, folks.

Another favorite line we often hear is, “All games have terrible launches– get used to it.” So… hold on. Since so many games experience massive launch issues, that means we’re supposed to be satisfied with game crashes, disconnects, the inability to create accounts, severe lag, and game-breaking bugs? I’m sorry, but just because something sucks normally doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect and hope for better.

FFXIV TItle 7

With Phase 3 of the Beta closing in on us quickly, more and more screens are being released of new areas that we will be able to explore!
Our latest batch of screens once again highlight the region of Limsa Lominsa!
It would seem that several of the new screens that have been released over the past few weeks are putting a large focus on showing off the new lighting tweaks that have been made to the engine. Personally, I’d say that the team at Square-Enix are doing an amazing job, and the graphical improvements are looking fantastic!

That’s where you come in. It’s time to turn our poor little Beta Server into a clown car. We have been taking Beta Registrations for some time now, and we are going to be inviting a lot of people to come play WildStar for one weekend only in our first Stress Test. In fact, some of the invites will have already gone out by the time this article is published (check those spam filters!).

So check your emails and spam folders, you might be getting a chance to try the game! If you do get an invite, make sure you get into the game because it guarantees you a future beta invite!

FFXIV Title 6

Over at the Final Fantasy XIV Facebook page, some gorgeous looking screenshots showcasing the revamped starter nations of Limsa Lominsa and Ul’dah have been posted, and they are chock-full of adorable Lalafell goodness! FFXIV Title 5

Veterans to FFXIV’s Version 1 have been chomping at the bit to finally get a hold of their old characters again and with the upcoming Beta 3, they will finally have that chance. However, there have also been many questions regarding not only how that will work, but also whether or not players would have a chance to re-customize their avatars, since there are several new customization options. Square-Enix, being the good guys they are, decided to let us in on what they have planned!

Robert “Hvinire” Peeler, FFXIV Community Manager, made an interesting announcement via the official FFXIV forums yesterday that shed some light on the question:

wildstar-beta-invites-heade

Although the hotly anticipated WildStar closed beta testing started on April 10th, 2013, judging by the response on fansites there are still many more potential players who haven’t received an invite yet. So when should we start hitting the F5 key on our inboxes again?

Carbine has been tight-lipped about the next batch of beta invites, but a featured post by Jeremy “Gaffer” Gaffney from April 17 says that the company is aiming for a “Big New Deployment” of beta patches every 5 weeks. Each beta invite is for a limited time, so it makes sense that a new wave of invites would go out around the same time to test the new content.

It’s coming up on 4 weeks since the first round of invites, so we can all start eagerly checking our email inboxes soon!

Want to get a jump on the action? The last beta tester pool was taken from newsletter subscribers who also filled out a survey about their computer hardware, so now is a good time to subscribe if you haven’t yet. That could put you in the running for an invite, but don’t get your hopes up just yet — Carbine has said in the past that they had over 200,000 beta signups, and implied that they sent out only 1000 invites in this first batch.

Those aren’t great odds, but it should be worth the wait.

FFXIV Title 4

Recently translated information reveals some rather interesting information regarding not just the upcoming beta phase, but also plans for release and details on the new collector’s edition digital items! Additionally, there are a few rather interesting tidbits of information nestled in there regarding the PS4 version of the game and a new trailer being released soon. For full details, read on below:

General Info

  • All  pre-orders and legacy players will have early access to the game.
  • The target release and start of service date is slated for sometime in the Summer. “Sale during when it’s hot (weather)”
  • More information regarding Collector’s Edition and Pre-Order start dates will be announced post 5/20.

FFXIV Title 2

Naoki Yoshida took the stage today at Nico Nico Chokaigi 2 to make the announcement that phase 3 of FFXIV’s beta test will begin June, so long as Sony OKs the PS3 certification. By all accounts, the PS3 tuning and optimization is going quite well, with the PS3 client being able to easily display between 30 and 40 characters before showing any strain. That’s certainly welcome news for any potential PS3 players out there!

In this week’s Wildstar Wednesday by Jeremy Gaffney, we get a article full of bits and pieces of the first week of beta. We get to see the first beta tester get toasted as we also find out people are already making UI addons. More importantly the developers speak of the goals of the beta program.

So what are the overall goals for Carbine with the beta?

Well, we’re tracking almost everything that goes on in the game. Combat timings, level timings, movement, you name it. The players’ actions matter to us. Betas aren’t always fun per se (there’s often a big difference between “playing” and “testing”) – so we’ve tried hard to make sure the game is actually fun even in this, our very first round of external testing. Hopefully we do well most of the time at having a good experience – sometimes we won’t – and we need to know where!
