moar on 2.6 header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream extravaganza, we found out all about RIFT 2.6. Faratha shared some information on Dream Weaving that we’ve already covered, but Simon and Faratha did mention a few new tidbits regarding the patch itself and other new features we’ll be seeing. Here’s what we found out:

  • 2.6 will add in the rest of the Crucia story arc. Specifically, we’ll be getting a new air saga questline that consists of four arcs that include over 30 new quests.
  • There’s also two new zone events that are part of the Crucia story arc– one fire and one water.
  • There’s a bounty system being added. From the looks of what’s on the PTS so far, this will allow players to hunt down certain enemies for turn-ins that will be located in Tempest Bay. There is a series of new achievements for bounties as well.
  • Faratha wants to add more goodies for guild dimensions in the future such as crafting stations, mailboxes, etc.
  • We’ll be getting new macro icons in 2.6 that are based off the raid icons.
  • We’ll be getting two more raid rifts and a new stronghold that includes a 5-man boss fight with three possible versions at level 30, 50, and 60.
  • We’re also getting something Simon called Bindings of Blood. Hmmm, sounds interesting!

In case you were hoping Trion would be able to further increase the maximum item limit allowed in dimensions, Faratha confirmed on the forums yesterday that the current max item limits, sadly, won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. They’re at the maximum amount currently allowed. Here’s what she had to say:

Hey, everybody.

We understand your plight, and we want higher dimension item limits just as much as you do. Not only do we want to let your creativity shine, but from a business standpoint, you might buy more dimension items if you could put more in your dimensions.

This means that every time we’ve been able to up the item limit in dimensions, we have done so. We did this once when Storm Legion was in beta, once after it launched, and again recently when we added the last level that doubled every dimension’s potential item capacity.

Unfortunately, we are now up against the curb with item limits, and we’re not planning any further increases.

Thanks for understanding!

crafting lag

If you’ve been having a little fun with the new tradeskill extensions and utilizing the Rift Store to pick up all those crafting recipes without having to run to each of the vendors, you’ve probably noticed a bit of lag when opening the Crafting –> Recipes menu in the Rift Store. In fact, you may have noticed a bit more than lag and experienced some disconnects if you have learned a large number of crafting recipes already. The lag’s caused by the system trying to load all of the individual recipe information along with the info regarding which recipes your character has already learned at once.

The good news? Trion is well aware of the issue and is planning a fix:

We’re taking steps to divide the recipes into smaller bunches on the store. This should help with the problem those of you who’ve bought lots of recipes are having.

In particular, each profession will have its own category for recipes on the Rift Store.

As well, all the recipes that were exclusively on the Store will now be available on the artisan store NPCs.

While we were making these fixes, we went ahead and improved filtering by adding checkboxes (sub-sub-categories) for each type of recipe. And, even better, we’ve made the required skill levels visible and sortable in the list.

These changes should be going live with the next hotfix or two.

Faratha shared an informative summary on the forums yesterday of how exactly dimensions will be affected when RIFT‘s transition to free-to-play takes place on June 12th. The super-short summary is that dimension enthusiasts will be getting a lot more goodies to have fun with. One look at the RIFT Store on the PTS confirms this. There are a ton of new dimension items (and some achievements finally!). Thankfully, almost all of the dimension items in the store are purchasable with Credits or Plat.

Keep reading to take a look at Faratha’s full post.

moonshade pools title

The winners of Trion’s recent Joy of Dimensions contest were awarded one very cool reward– an early key to the new Moonshade Highlands dimension currently in development. This dimension, which is being called Moonshade Pools, will most likely be released in 2.3. It was held back from being released in 2.2 due to the lack of structural buildings inside the dimension. During the course of the Joy of Dimensions live stream series, dimension fans requested some of the tiny hovels found elsewhere in Moonshade Highlands. These hovels haven’t made it into the Moonshade Pools dimension the contest winners are now able to enjoy, but they’ll be there when RIFT 2.3 goes live.

For now, the empty Moonshade Pools dimension is currently up for public preview on the Deepwood shard. If you’d like to take a peek, simply search for “Moonshade Pools.” Keep reading to see a screenshot preview of the empty dimension as well as some information Faratha shared on the forums regarding item limits and the general size of the dimension.

If you have a character who’s an artificer, you’ve probably noticed that salvaging hasn’t been quite right for a little while, especially for low-level artificers who are trying to play catch up. Faratha had an update for artificers on the forums yesterday, and stated that a fix will be coming in RIFT 2.2:

Artificer salvaging has indeed been borked for a while now, and please accept my heartfelt apologies for not having fixed this sooner. The GM quoted in the other thread didn’t have all the details because I hadn’t looked into the situation yet.

As of 2.2 -

  • Low-level jewelry will once again yield gem components when salvaged by an artificer. Depending on a ring or necklace’s level, it will provide Gemstone Fragments, Iridescent Powder, or Clear Crystal.
  • Artificers will be able to salvage totems that weren’t salvaging correctly.
  • Artificers, not weaponsmiths, will be able to salvage staves.

conquest

We received two dev tracker posts of value yesterday, one regarding some upcoming fixes to runecrafting materials and runebreaking, and another with some good news for folks who weren’t able to pick up the first Conquest trinket. First, the trinket bit, which was posted by Daglar as a sort of Fae Yule surprise for players:

We have updated the merchants such that there is a voucher (non-tradable) for the previous season’s Marks of Conquest purchasable with the current seasons Freelancer Marks of Conquest.. You will be capable of transferring the new marks into the old.

This should go out with the next hot fix, that we hope to have out this week.

Daglar also followed up with a hint that we will soon see new items added to the Ridge Runner faction vendor.
