If you’ve done any Onslaughts within the last few days, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the new, temporary anti-botting defense mechanism Trion has added to Storm Legion Onslaughts. Basically, if you stay in one spot long enough, a tear-looking AoE circle will appear beneath your feet that does considerable damage. The circles tend to be quite random, so it’s possible to see them appear as you’re merely running through an Onslaught that’s under attack. You can also have one appear when you’re drinking between invasions or even while you’re upgrading a turret, relay, or lifespring.

Trion’s taken notice of the last part, thankfully, and will be making a change in the next hotfix that will allow players to use Nexus Infusion to upgrade Onslaught turrets, relays, and lifesprings while on the move. Thought you’d like to be the first to know – in the next Hot Fix we’re planning to make Nexus Infusion not be cancelled by movement. Meaning you can continue to channel the ability while dodging AoE’s permitting you don’t go out of range.

morban title

There are a couple advantages to questing in Morban. One– you get to kill lots of undead stuff, two– you gain plenty of Necropolis Caretakers notoriety, and three– you get to wander around and guess what? Kill more undead stuff! Members of the Storm Legion also make their way in the mix. Morban, which is the zone following Seratos on the Dusken continent, pretty much follows the same exploratory vibe Seratos has. The zone has a central quest line, but there are plenty of non-scripted areas to explore, random quests to find, and a great deal of Carnage killing to take part in.

Morban is ideal for players starting at around levels 55-59. There’s a fairly large level jump between Seratos and Morban, so it becomes helpful at this point to hop back and forth between both continents a bit. Some ideal Brevane zones for these levels would be Ardent Domain, Kingsward, and Ashora. Like Seratos, Morban is rather dark and desolate in appearance, with a landscape full of ominous trees and looming piles of bones. It’s also the zone where both Tower of the Shattered and Archive of Flesh are located.

seratos title

Continuing our Dusken and Brevane zone tour and point of interest map collection, Seratos is next on the list, which is the second zone on the Dusken continent. Seratos is one of the largest zones in Storm Legion, and is quite a bit more spread out than its level-equivalent zone on Brevane, which is Eastern Holdings. Seratos is ideal for players starting at around levels 52-56, and unless you’re doing quite a few dungeons and Instant Adventures while leveling, it might be advisable around this point to begin questing on both continents if you haven’t already been doing so.

Seratos lives up to Dusken’s dusk-colored reputation, and takes players on a questing journey that’s dark, death-themed (purple galore!), and a little exploratory in nature. While Eastern Holdings has a more prominent story quest line to follow, adventuring through Seratos does follow a central story, but the story paths are more spread out, letting players explore the gloomy countryside and take part in plenty of Carnages and Onslaughts along the way.

Patch 1.6 is coming soon and we get a whole new slew of screenshots, shown above. If you haven’t been over to the PTS yet, ZAM put out a good interview with Hal Hanlin that discusses all the new features. We find out that Instant Adventures are not coming right away, but they will be in before 1.7. There will be a new 5 man dungeon that is Rift’s biggest yet which includes up to 11 bosses on it’s hardest difficulty level and a non-linear design. No raid will be included with 1.6’s launch though Ember Isle hosts two different Dragons.

Other features include Onslaught, which is a new invasion tactic. There will be Sourcewells all over Ember Isles that have turrets you can upgrade. Once upgraded, invasions will start to target the Sourcewell area thus starting an Onslaught.

The major addition at the release of 1.6 will be Onslaughts. “We have areas called Sourcewells, which are the genesis of the sourcestone. You’ll actually see crystal deposits of sourcestone lying around that you can use to charge your planar charges up. If you find a Sourcewell, you’ll also find some old broken turrets around, both offensive and defensive. You can use your planar charges to activate and level these up, make them more powerful, and create defended areas to hold off enemies. And that’s good! Because as soon as you start leveling these up… what’s gonna happen is something we refer to as an Onslaught, which is a series of invasions that are targeted at that location. So in effect, you’re telling the game ‘All right! Bring it on!’… that’s kind of a fun, ‘push button, get to kill things’ gameplay.” Hal notes though that it really becomes critical during zone events, as the Sourcewells need to be defended to defeat the zone boss… but upgrading the defenses incites even more invasions through the Onslaught system. Thus, it becomes a strategy of “Is it worth upgrading this turret if it means another invasion?” Hal did mention that perhaps the Onslaught spawns need a bit of spacing saying, “They don’t come slowly! My first feedback point last week was ‘maybe we need to spread the spawns out just a little!’ because if you have 45 things that hit all at once…” It remains to be seen if the spawn rate of Onslaught invasions will be changed prior to the 1.6 going live!

We can’t wait for 1.6 to go live as it will feature some major additions to RIFT!
