2.7 soul collective

Just in case you haven’t had a chance yet to hop on the PTS and try out the Arbiter, Physician, Oracle, or Liberator– the four new souls being added in RIFT 2.7– yet, we’ve collected some of the best links out there for build guides, lists of feedback, soul calculators, and videos of the new souls in action. If you have any other cool links for us to share, feel free to drop us a line in the comments section. We’ll try and keep this updated as the time closes down to the launch of 2.7.

pvp dimension header

During last Friday’s live stream extravaganza, Daglar and the team showed off a PvP dimension that Kiwi created on the PTS (Kiwi also, by the way, conducted a pretty cool interview regarding PvP dimensions with Pithos if you haven’t checked it out yet). PvP dimensions, as we knew from before, are arena-like in function, allowing players to form 2 or 3 teams that go head to head in a dimension that players create using all kinds of new goodies that allow dimensioneers to create boundaries, scoring methods, starting points, timers, and even environments that cause participants to take damage.

All’s fair in war, right? Well, in this case what’s fair is in the hands of the dimension creator, which gives our intrepid creators a pretty big– and fun– challenge ahead. PvP dimensions will not have any official leaderboards or rewards simply due to the fact that players are ultimately in charge here (and exploits therefore are a high risk), but I think it’s safe to say that if the playerbase tosses together some PvP dimensions that are truly epic (and c’mon, we know they will), Trion wouldn’t hesitate to turn one or two into a real warfront.

rift new mounts

This past Friday afternoon, Trion hosted a playtest of the new Steppes of Infinity Conquest map on the Public Test Shard. Much fun and bug discovery was to be had as even Daglar and Vladd showed up to enjoy a bit of action. During the playtest, the team also previewed a couple of cool new goodies that will be added to RIFT in the future. Kiwi showed off a few screenshots over at Rift Dream Dimensions, and they’re far too awesome to not share. Here’s a brief preview!

black loyalty tier 2.6 header

The new features headed our way in RIFT 2.6 continue to roll out on the Public Test Shard (PTS). Last Friday, we received another new update with some pretty cool features to preview, one of which is a completely new Loyalty tier. Also available for preview are unstable artifacts and some of the reward mounts as well the new trophy goodies, the beginning hints of an Air saga world event, and the Bloodfire Stronghold and its corresponding zone events. Let’s take a brief tour, shall we?

Notes: As always, all information found on the PTS is subject to change at any time. Also, it was announced on the PTS that not all of these updates will be going live the day that 2.6 releases. Some parts are connected to the Air saga world event while others will be released gradually.

rift dream weaving header RJ

We won’t be seeing RIFT 2.6 on live shards until February of 2014, but for now there are some pretty nifty additions previewing on the PTS that we’ll be able to explore fully when the update goes live. The most exciting new feature might be Dream Weaving– the completely new crafting tradeskill being added in 2.6. Dream Weaving will allow players to break down artifacts and craft all sorts of cool dimension furnishings and features, BoE dimension keys of new dimensions to explore, and new item enchants called Dream Orbs that will stack with runes.

Want to learn more? Take a peek at our writeup and screenshot-filled preview over on Junkies Nation. There’s a reason why all the dimensioneers are clamoring on the forums for 2.6 to come quicker. There will soon be more to love about our favorite homes away from Telara!

rift 2.5 song of dreams preview RJ header

With RIFT‘s next major patch update– RIFT 2.5– coming Wednesday, November 6th, there’s a ton of new content on the horizon including underwater content just off the shores of Ember Isle complete with new quests, carnage quests, daily quests, rifts, rewards, and a zone event. We’ll also be seeing a level 60 version of the Drowned Halls sliver and an updated, overhauled level 60 version of Deepstrike Mines with new encounters. Four additional level 60 chronicles will also become accessible. One of which is a new Planebreaker Bastion chronicle while the other three are “Intrepid” versions of level 50 chronicles that have been updated for level 60 players. Players who are currently maxed out on Planar Attunement will also be able to explore the three new PA trees– Storm, Cinder, and Nature.

While the developers have announced that not all of the new 2.5 content will be launching when the update goes live and will instead be released as the weeks unfold, most of the new content is currently previewing on the Player Test Shard for players to explore.

Interested in a preview? Head on over to Junkies Nation and take a look at all the details.

RJ Dev Tracker

Last week, Daglar announced that a new Conquest PvP map was going to make a debut on the Public Test Server for player testing. The new map will take place in Steppes of Infinity and scoring will consist of teams taking charges from Fort Brevo to Fort Antapo and vice versa. Daglar followed up the news yesterday with an announcement that Conquest: Steppes of Infinity will be playable this Friday, October 18th on the PTS beginning at 2:30 PM PST. And yes, there are rewards for players who take part in this early phase of testing.

Here are the details:

The rough draft for the new game mode is up on PTS and needs its tires kicked this coming Friday at 2:30 PM PST.

Those that come out and participate will be eligible to receive the PvP testing title: Savage Tester.

Testers will also receive a moderate amount of loyalty if they have already passed the minimum loyalty threshold.

Everyone that shows up in the testing logs during the allotted time will also be entered in a random drawing where 5 lucky winners will receive either a Ruby Ki-Rin or a Hellbug of their choice.

Reminder: This is a rough draft / first playable so things are very likely to change!

• Capture charges in Fort Brevo and use them on extractors in Fort Antapo to gain points (And the reverse!)
• Use your planar upgrading abilities on a variety of randomly spawning Foci to gain points for your team.

autumn harvest 2013 RJ header

Edit 10/10/13: Trion announced a date for when Autumn Harvest will begin this year. The fun starts October 17th!

Ready to get your Halloween on? RIFT has plenty of new goodies headed our way for Autumn Harvest this year, and an early preview of many items and achievements is currently previewing on the Public Test Shard. If you’ll remember from last year, RIFT‘s first introduction of Autumn Harvest offered some nifty rewards (and a whole bunch of artifact chasing!), but it was rather bare-bones as far as achievements and Halloween-themed items went. That has all changed this year, and Trion’s upped the the fun in a lot of ways. For starters, we’re going to be seeing new costumes, masks, pets, mounts, activities, achievements, and some rather fun potions and serums.

If you’ll recall from an official live stream a little while ago, we’re going to be getting a very cool Reaper mount and a collection of unique Halloween masks. Neither are on the PTS just yet (except for the pumpkin masks), but many of the other new Autumn Harvest items including new pets, achievements, novelty items, fun consumables, and dimension items are.

For a detailed preview and a whole bunch of screenshots, follow this link to Junkies Nation.

RJ Dev Tracker

Thanks to player feedback regarding the Infernal Dawn: Laethys chronicle that recently hit the PTS and is coming to live shards in RIFT 2.4, the Trion dungeon team has decided to add in a Hard Mode button that players can access to face opponents that present more of a challenge. Chronicles are intended for players who are newly-60 or who are just entering Expert dungeons, so having two modes of chronicle difficulties does seem to make a lot of sense, especially as raiders gain better gear. Here’s what krug had to say:

Thanks for the feedback, everyone – it’s much appreciated. Balancing these chronicles is an interesting prospect, as they’re intended to be fun for everyone, but they can’t really be balanced for everyone. Infernal Dawn: Laethys is meant to be a little harder than Queen’s Gambit, but the challenge level is really for people gearing up into dungeons and maybe expert dungeons.

That said, as an experiment, I’ve added a Hard Mode button near the Communicator by Maklamos which will increase his difficulty and provide some remuneration. This should show up in the next update. If you get a chance, play through, and let me know what you think.

If the experiment goes well, we could potentially see Hard Modes for more chronicles and encounters in chronicles. Is this something the game needs, you think, or would we be better off with more difficult chronicles overall or a reevaluation of chronicle rewards in general?

new cosmetic rift store items

In a recent update to the Public Test Shard (PTS), there are a whole lot of new goodies to explore. Most of these updates and items will be added during RIFT 2.4, which is due out sometime this month. Among the new goodies, there’s a new Chronicle to test based off Infernal Dawn, new PvP ranks (rank 90) and PvP gear, the RIFT Store Trophies section, a random Conquest queue, new seals that add +89 base stats, new synergy crystals, new crafting reagents, a hint of a squirrel mount (!!!), and more.

We’ll be covering most of this in greater detail later in the day, but for now, let’s take a look at one addition we didn’t mention above that should make quite a few players happy– the addition of three new RIFT Store cosmetic character unlocks: Extended Hair Style Set, Hair Color Set Bundle, and Skin Color Set Bundle.
